The GTA 6 Mapping Project
Every fan map of Leonida, including this one, rests on years of collaborative work that started with a leak. Understanding how that work was done is the best way to judge how much any given map is worth.

It started with the 2022 breach
In September 2022 roughly ninety early development clips of GTA 6 appeared online. Crucially, many were captured with debug information visible, including on-screen world coordinates. That turned scattered footage into something measurable: if you know where the camera is in world space, you can start placing what it sees. A community effort formed around assembling those fragments into a coherent picture.
How the reconstruction works
Three sources get combined. Coordinates from the leaked footage give absolute positions. Trailer and screenshot analysis identifies real Miami and Florida landmarks, which anchors the game geography to real geography. The leaked map material supplies the outline of the state itself, on the reasonable assumption that the 2023 build it came from is close to the shipping shape. Where the three agree, confidence is high. Where they conflict, somebody has to make a call, and different maps make different calls.
How accurate is it?
The large-scale shape is likely close. The regions are confirmed by Rockstar, the coastline follows a real one, and the major cities sit where independent sources agree they sit. Fine detail is much weaker: exact boundaries, minor place names and anything derived from a single blurry frame. The honest position is that a fan map is a good approximation of the state and a poor guide to any specific street.
How this map is built
Every marker here is placed at the coordinate of its real-world counterpart and warped onto the leaked outline, rather than dropped by eye. The outline itself is traced from the leaked material and labelled as such on the map. Each entry records where the claim came from and carries a grade for how solid that source is. Nothing is plotted without a source, which is why this map has fewer markers than some others and states plainly which ones might disappear.
FAQ
What is the GTA 6 mapping project?
The community effort to reconstruct the map before release. It started with the September 2022 breach, which put roughly ninety development clips online, many with on-screen world coordinates that made the footage measurable. Trailer and screenshot analysis then anchored the game geography to real Miami landmarks. Every fan-made GTA 6 map, including this one, rests on that work.
What is the GTA 6 map based on?
Florida, closely enough that you can lay the two side by side. Leonida is a fictional version of the state, named after Ponce de Leon. On the leaked layout it keeps the broad shape: land running south to an island chain off the southern tip, a western arm where the panhandle would be, and a large lake inland. Vice City stands in for Miami, Grassrivers for the Everglades, Port Gellhorn for Panama City, and Ambrosia for the sugar country around Clewiston. Mount Kalaga reaches north into a Georgia that the game calls Gloriana.
Has the GTA 6 map been confirmed?
Partly. Rockstar has confirmed the six regions of Leonida and a set of named places inside them on its own site, so those are settled. The outline of the state, the county names and most of the smaller settlements come from leaked material and have never been confirmed. That split is exactly why every entry on this map carries an evidence grade instead of being presented as equally certain.
